Moving cursor/selection with arrow keys acts unexpectedly sometimes

Many times (especially when navigating to/through blank lines) the arrow keys do not act as would be expected. Sometimes a selection cannot be moved in a direction using shift + arrow keys if it gets "stuck" because of this.
