Floaters Docs Window Management

Displays Settings

Floaters can intelligently handle multiple displays and changing display configurations. For example, if you commonly switch between using your laptop's screen and plugging in an external monitor, Floaters can account for that and help make the switching easier.

In Settings Window > Displays you can adjust how the app behaves in these situations.

The term display configuration just refers to what screens are currently available and what their sizes are. If you change your screen to a different resolution, that's a different configuration. If you plug in another monitor, that's a different configuration.

Multiple Displays

→ Save Positions and Sizes per Configuration

Each floater will save it's size and position for each display configuration. Changing the size/position of a floater on one display configuration will not affect its size/position on other configurations.

→ Intelligently Reposition for new Configurations

If you switch to a brand new display configuration, or if a floater has not yet been opened on a specific configuration, Floaters can intelligently determine size and position for each window. It will use the nearest screen edges/corners and attempt to place the window in a similar position on the new configuration. It will also check if a window was stretched to cover most of the screen horizontally or vertically and replicate that on the new config.

Display Configurations

Once Floaters encounters a unique display configuration, it will be remembered so you can customize various settings. The customized settings will be used whenever that exact display configuration active on your machine.

→ Open New Notes on

You can choose the screen on which newly created notes are presented, and this can be customized for each display configuration.

→ Open List Windows on

The screen that Floaters' main list windows will appear on in this configuration.

→ Screen Boundaries

Each display configuration can have customizable screen boundaries for each screen. The boundaries prevent floaters from being dragged past the screen's edges.
